Great news! After debuting on the first of April with great ratings (top of the list in fact), Game of Thrones has been officially renewed for the third season by HBO. The third season will focus on the first half of Martin’s third book, A Storm of Swords: Steel and Snow. This is of The third book will therefore be broken up into two seasons of unknown length. This of course almost confirms a fourth season as well!
Indeed, Weiss has hinted that the series will be composed of as many seasons as necessary for it to tell the complete story, and “to do justice to George’s entire opus.” This is in line with HBO’s co-president Richard Plepler’s statement in summer 2011 at the Television Critics press tour that HBO would continue producing the tv-series for as long as George R.R. Marting wants it to. How’s that for encouraging?
